Here are some ways to get ready before showing up to your lesson:
Speak to Teacher
How well do you know your teacher? Prior to starting off with piano lessons, it is goo that you have a detailed yet hearty chat session with your teacher. This will help you find out which books they use to teach, their teaching style, qualification, if there are any help materials they’d like you to go through before your first lesson. You may notes during your conversation. Also feel free to ask your teacher any questions that you might have in mind. Remember when you are speaking to your mentor, there’s no such thing as a stupid question. This is especially true when you have just started. The prime duty of your teacher is to guide you. Ear for Rhythms
While listening to the music, it is very important that you listen to the clapping or beat. Tapping your foot in time will also help. When you get used to noticing the note and beat and tempo changes within a song, you are actually improving your physical tempo. The practice also boosts your ear for rhythm.
The Middle C
If you are a beginner, middle C will serve as your musical home-base. So sit down right in front of the piano keyboard center and observe. You will be able to black keys arranged in sets of 2 and 3. So start by putting index finger of your right hand on the lower (left) black key which is on the set of two black keys closest to the piano’s center. Allow the finger fall to the next white key you see on the left. Now press down. This is how you play middle C!
When you are at middle C, each white key you see is the next note up (D, E, F, and G). The scale will start over after G and next white key is ‘A’. You must try this exercise to strengthen fingers. Start with laying both hands flat on a table. Now practice lifting each finger, one at a time. The exercise will strengthen your fingers and boost coordination and nimbleness. You can also strengthen your fingers by practicing creating rings. This can be done by pressing each finger individually into the thumb. Now count to ten as you hold hands in a ring. Do not fingers to collapse.
You must spare ample time for yourself to ask what you would like to accomplish by learning piano. Is it a specific song that you wish to sing for a special occasion? Is it a special style of music you wish to play? It is important that you write down at least one goal. Writing goals will make them seem more achievable and real. You must keep these written goals posted by your piano. This will act as a reminder of all that you wish like to accomplish.
