Reddit is home to more than 1.6 million users now where they read the news, ask queries, share knowledge, and share the best content from the web. It is also popular as the front page of the internet as only best and useful content can survive on Reddit. If you one of the genuine content creators, then Reddit can be the top traffic source for your website.

Reddit marketing is quite tricky because of the strict self-promotional guidelines and its vigilant audience. Most internet marketers struggle on this platform as they don’t know the true essence of Reddit and follow conventional marketing strategies there too.

In this post, I will crack Reddit’s code and explain how it can help your website to shine. Just make sure you read this post till the very end and get benefits from my experience of the platform.

Why you should consider Reddit for marketing?

Reddit must be on top of your list to drive traffic to your website because of the following reasons:

  • You get a dofollow link when you share your content on Reddit (DA 99).
  • Drive traffic to your website.
  • Improve search ranking of your pages.

What should be your ultimate goal:

If you understand how Reddit works, then you already know what it is. Generally, when you submit a post to a subreddit, it is either downvoted or upvoted. The number of upvotes and downvotes determine the overall score of your post (Number of upvotes – Number of downvotes). And, based on the post score it either appears either at the top, bottom, or anywhere on the subreddit.

If your post stays on top for a longer duration, then you will definitely get some good number of visitors from Reddit. But, it is not that simple as you think. To be successful in Reddit marketing, you should understand the psychology of Redditors.

Redditors are insensitive towards self-promoters. If they spot your post as spam, then they will surely check out your profile to figure out whether you are a spammer or not. Most spammers on Reddit have a pattern in their post submissions, and if you are one of those, then you will be easily caught. After that, be ready for some serious thrashing. You can also lose valuable karma points because of downvotes.

Are you scared? I was too when I first began my journey to hack Reddit marketing. But once I understood its true essence and how it works, it became easier for me to use Reddit as a traffic generator tool for my app development company.

On a lucky day, I generated 500 unique page views for one of my posts in just an hour.

If you want to achieve the same feat, then follow these Reddit tips & tricks.

  1. Be a Redditor not an internet marketer

If you are on the platform just for the sake of marketing your products and content, then you will not go a long way.

Redditors are very passionate about their community, and they have zero tolerance for spammers and marketers. Even if you promote best of your content in the most natural looking way, it can still be considered as spam.

I usually wait for 2 weeks after sharing a self-promotional post on Reddit. Meanwhile, I am active in the community, passing sarcastic comments and sharing other useful content on the web.

  1. Find relevant Subreddits

On Reddit, you can find a subreddit about anything from cute cat pics to blockchain technology. There is something for content creators of every niche. So before posting any content find relevant subreddits where you can share your knowledge and website content hand in hand.

Pro tip: Subscribe to subreddits to your interests as well and participate in the community. Also, be real and humble while interacting with others.

  1. Understand Subreddit audience

Unlike social media platforms where people spend the time to relax and stay connected, Reddit audience likes to discuss, share ideas, and help each other. Also, the audience is bit educated and professional too.

Half-baked content will not perform better. If you want to increase traffic from Reddit, then you need extensively researched content satisfying advanced Reddit users. Therefore, spend some time to analyze audience and then optimize your content around it. Best way to do is to interact with other subredditors and read the comments section.

4. Only share your best content

Like I said, half-baked content doesn’t work on Reddit which only leaves the room for nicely written in-depth posts in which you are giving all of your knowledge.

Before posting to a subreddit, read its rules and respect them. After that, do a quick search and see if a similar post is submitted or not. If not, then you are good to go, otherwise think twice to submit your post as a new thread. In the latter case, you can submit the link in the comment section of the similar submitted post which will give you a dofollow link and meager amount of traffic.

Avoid: Do not share your content as soon as you join a subreddit. Spend some days over there, interact with other subscribers and then go for self-promotion.

 5.Do not over promote

Excessivity of everything is bad. Same goes for promotion on Reddit as well. If you just keep on promoting your stuff, then you may get banned and in the worst cases, Reddit can ban your domain as well.

Pro tip: Share content from other domains as well. It will help you look more natural and even earn post karmas.

 6.Help the community grow

Excess of everything is bad. The popular classic proverb perfectly applies for promotion on Reddit as well. If you just keep on promoting your stuff, then you may get banned, and in worst cases, Reddit can ban your domain as well.

Digital marketing and app development excite me, and therefore I spend my most time on subreddits related to these topics and engage with others. If you want to market your products on Reddit, then be a user first.

 7.Make your profile look natural

Like I said, Redditors quite often check the profile of the submitter to figure out whether he is a spammer or not. If you are following all the tips written in this post, then you don’t have to worry, as you are already playing safe.

  1. Be active

Consistency is the key. Regularly use Reddit to build a strong profile. That doesn’t mean, you have to spend hours on the site. Pick up some subreddits and spend 10-15 minutes daily to contribute. I do the same.

9.Find opportunities to post your link

If you want to play safe, then find the discussions around the content and share your post there. You can use Reddit search for this purpose. As stated earlier, this type of submissions might not bring a huge amount of traffic, but it will help you in SEO which I guess is a win-win situation.

 10.Create your own subreddit

If you want to play safe, then find the discussions around the content and share your post there. You can use Reddit search for this purpose. As stated earlier, this type of submissions might not bring a huge amount of traffic, but it will help you in SEO which I guess is a win-win situation.

Final thoughts:

Do note that Redditors are very smart and they can sense an illicit activity from a very far. And, if you try to play extra smart, then you will soon get yourself kick out of the community. Follow Reddit etiquettes and read subreddit rules before posting. Also, follow all the listed Reddit tips and tricks to expect a result.
